Mr Wade, from Bath, Somerset, took extra care when reeling in this specimen which weighed more than 100lbs and was 5ft long.
Luckily he is an experienced angler and caught the fish for the TV show River Monsters, which is due to be screened on ITV next month.
The show looks into mythical reports from around the world of humans being attacked by unknown monsters from the deep before Mr Wade sets out to find and catch the suspect.
"This fish is no tench," said Mr Wade.
"It is, for all intents and purposes, a giant piranha. It is quite a beast.
"The teeth on it are incredibly sharp and are about the same length as a great white shark.
"It also has an extremely powerful bite and has been known to consume prey the same size as itself, attack people and take pieces out of crocodiles.
"It is thought that these fish attack in a reflex response to a sudden movement or splash.
"It is very rare to catch one, especially by an outsider because they are found in such a remote and difficult location to get to. There are no guides or lodges on that part of the Congo River." Mr Wade used a sizable catfish as bait for the tigerfish - Hydrocynus goliath in Latin - and a 200lbs rod and line.
“Four times smaller than a conventional refrigerator, the Bio Robot cools biopolymer gel through luminescence. Rather than shelves, the non sticky, odorless gel morphs around products to create a separate pod that suspends items for easy access.”
Built by photographer Chris McCaw. Apparently, he got his start in DIY photography equipment for financial reasons- he sold his expensive large format camera to pay rent, and figured out how to build a replacement for $150. Since then, he's been building larger and larger cameras, such as the 30x40" version shown above. From the Photo-Eye Blog: "Building my own camera was a really liberating process as a photographer. Sometimes you get into that rut of having big dreams of owning high-end camera gear. The reality is that if you use your imagination and a practical sense of what you want to accomplish, you can do most anything. I feel confident that I can pretty much make any camera I need (I'm currently up to 30x40" mounted on a garden wagon). I also just made one on the base of a wheelchair to hold a 125 lb aerial camera lens! The wheelchair camera (my friends call it 'the sad robot') was just built last month. So far it is only an 8x10" camera, but it has a 600mm f/3.5 lens that projects an image about 16x20". I was told the lens came off a U2 spy plane -- it is a beast. I use a car jack to raise and lower the lens. I even needed to get a handicap ramp to get it into the van! ".
Rihanna stars in a new Kodak commercial. In the ad, the pop princess attends a fashion show with friends and commemorates the occasion with photos and video taken on a Kodak digital camera. Then, saying "Boom!" she clicks the share button, which effortlessly transports the footage via social networking sites like Facebook and YouTube, as well as email. Check it out!
SSC Ultimate Aero II, the new Ultimate Aero is powered by a 6.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8(with 1,350 horses), can reach a top speed of 275 mph. It aims to recapture the production car speed record that took away from Bugatti's Veyron. Its wheels are the world's first one-piece carbon-fiber units and tip the scale at just under 13 pounds. The car weighs about 2,600 pounds. There's carbon-fiber all over the Ultimate Aero II, with the exception of some aluminum bracing for added safety in the event of a crash. Shelby SuperCars expected to sell it next year for $970,000.
